It’s thought that jojoba mimics sebum on the skin to “trick” sebaceous glands into producing less sebum and help keep oil levels balanced. There’s no scientific research to support this theory, though.

Still, a 2012 study found that applying a mask made of healing clay and jojoba oil two to three times weekly helped heal skin lesions and mild acne.

A little jojoba oil goes a long way. Using too much may worsen oily skin. Try massaging a few drops into clean skin a few days a week to see how you react. If you like the results, apply daily.

HOMEMADE FACE MASKS

1.TOMATOES + HONEY FACE MASK

(can help to get rid of acne, blackheads, blemishes, can brighten dull skin)

The consistent application also aids in the removal of blackheads, shrinking of pores, whitening and smoothing of the skin as tomato has a

 rich lycopene content which can give you lovely glowing look. Its antibacterial properties also make it a good remedy for acne. Honey has skin lightening and brightening properties.

Things You’ll Need

  • 1 fresh ripe tomato
  • 1 tbsp. of honey
  • Knife
  • Blender

How to Make a Tomato Facial Mask

  1. wash the tomato and blend it until you get a smooth puree
  2.  stir in the honey and mix well
  3.  apply the mixture onto your face and let it sit for at least 15 minutes
  4.  then wash it off with cold water and pat your face dry (my skin felt fresher, hydrated and clean)

Tips

  • If you prefer a quicker variant: Take half a tomato and massage your face or even neck with it, leave it for 15 minutes and then rinse it off. After applying the pulp, I felt a slight “stinging” on my skin for the first 5 to 10 minutes and then my skin felt tight.

2.CARROTS FACE MASK

(remove blemishes/acne scars)

Carrots are antiseptic and used in a homemade facial mask they help tone and rejuvenate your skin. Carrot-based facial masks are ideal for normal to oily skin.

Things You’ll Need

  • 2 large peeled carrots
  • Small pot
  • Small bowl
  • Fork

How to Make a Carrot Facial Mask

  1. Wash and peel two carrots and slice them into small rounds. Boil the carrots until they’re easily pierced with a fork. Drain the water away and pour the cooked carrot slices into a small bowl
  2. Mash the carrots up thoroughly with a fork until the mixture has reached a smooth consistency that suits you
  3. Wait until the mask has cooled down completely and then apply this paste to your face
  4. Leave it on your face for about 15-20 minutes and then rinse it off with cold water (I rinsed the mask off with milk and I really liked it) and then dry your face

3.CUCUMBER FACE MASK

(removes marks/spots and freshens up your skin)

Cucumbers have positive effects on your skin due to their hydrating qualities. When applied topically, they can soothe irritated skin. You can create your own personal moisturizer directly at home.

Things You’ll Need
. 1 large cucumber
. Knife
. Spoon
. Blender
. Small bowl

How to Make a Cucumber Facial Mask

1.Wash and peel a large cucumber and cut it lengthwise into spears. Carefully scoop out the seeds with a spoon. Cut seedless pieces into chunks

2.Throw cucumber chunks into a blender and puree it

3.Transfer the mixture into a bowl and apply to your face

4Leave it there for about 15-minutes and then rinse it off with cold water and dry

Tips

. If you want to save yourself time doing all the blending, simply massage your face with cucumber slices.

. You can also use cucumber slices to soothe eyelids by placing them on closed eyes.

4.EGG WHITES FACE MASK

(for treating acne, fine lines and wrinkles, and dull skin)

Eggs whites are full of the proteins and collagen and therefore can improve skin tone and elasticity and are suitable for those who are fighting any type of skin inflammation.

Things You’ll Need
. 1 egg white
. Small bowl
. Hand mixer

How to Make an Egg White Facial Mask
1.Separate the egg yolk and egg white
2. Beat the white into a frothy foam by using a hand mixer
3.Spread the foam over your face
4.Leave it on your face until the mask is dried (I usually keep it on until it becomes a sticky texture. At first when you put the mask on, it will feel foamy and smooth, as it dries it becomes a little bit more of a clay type texture, this means it is working)
5.Then simply washed it away with water and dry out

Tips
For a quicker way use a cotton ball to massage egg white on your face.

Please note: these homemade face masks are not an overnight remedy. It can take a few weeks to a few months. Patience and determination is a must! I really don’t mind and I would prefer taking this safe and natural route. But I will definitely continue this natural remedy.

There is something about warmer weather that makes me want to drink all the flavored beverages ever. Somehow, it seems like plain ole water just doesn’t do the trick when it’s 75 degrees like it did when it was blizzarding back in January. If I’m being totally honest, what I really want is a really cold gin and tonic, heavy on the lime, that I sip on while swinging on our front porch swing as the sun goes down, but I’ll have to wait for that kind of beverage until June.

For now, I’m getting my fill of fun, flavorful drinks by consuming a ton of naturally-flavored waters. I know, I know. You can buy flavored waters (both regular and sparkling) at the grocery store for almost nothing, and it’s so much easier than making your own. You’re right, it is so much more convenient to just snag a bottle or two off the shelf, but I love being able to customize my own combinations. I love knowing exactly what I’m drinking. And I love seeing this beautiful jar of deliciousness sitting in the fridge. It’s like a work of art!

Even though I was a water-drinking expert pre-pregnancy, I’ve struggled a lot with staying hydrated throughout my pregnancy because the taste of water (even filtered water) really didn’t agree with my pregnancy tastebuds. Flavored waters have been a lifesaver over the past eight months.

Water is important all the time. And it’s important throughout an entire pregnancy. But it’s especially important in the third trimester, when dehydration has been shown to trigger preterm labor. If I can keep Baby J growing inside for a bit longer just by getting my fill of water each day, I’m going to do it! Plus, staying property hydrated during the third trimester helps keep me from retaining water—no swollen feet or ankles for me (yet).

What I’ve been doing is filling up a half-gallon Mason jar (we inherited ours, but I’ve seen these at craft stores—check Michael’s and Hobby Lobby) with my water flavorings, ice and water in the morning, with a goal of getting through it twice in a day. That’s roughly 120 ounces of water, or 15 glasses, a day. The flavoring fruits, veggies and herbs will easily get me through two jar fill-ups and still keep their flavor. And in fact, I usually use them for two or more days. Basically, when they lose their flavor, I toss them in the compost and start over with a new combo. But until then, I just keep on filling it up!

In this jar, I used cucumbers, lime, strawberries and fresh mint. The cucumber, mint and lime make the water taste so refreshing and bright! And the strawberries just add a tiny touch of natural sweetness. If you wanted even stronger flavor, you could also muddle the mix-ins (mush them up) before pouring in your water. If you do that, I recommend straining the infused water before drinking—unless you like to chew chunks of cucumber and pick out lime seeds from your water.

This combination is one of my favorites, not only because it tastes yummy, but also because it just looks so darn pretty! I’m (obviously) a visual person, and I really think there is something in my noggin that says, “Hey, that’s pretty, I want to drink that!” and makes it more appealing to me than just regular ole water.
